CITY-LINK Express (M) Sdn Bhd, a homegrown company with 21 years’ experience in the courier service industry, expects its e-globalLINK integrated software system to boost sales by 20% to RM 72 mil in the current financial year ending Dec 31.

According to its chief executive officer David Tan, the company has invested RM 3 mil to develop the e-globalLINK system, which also encompasses front-end operations, e-warehousing, e-procurement and e-distribution, jointly with software partner Synervision Sdn Bhd under a 40:60 joint-venture agreement.

“City-Link’s e-globalLINK will contribute significantly to the development of the global IT industry, the multimedia community and especially the express distribution industry,” said Tan.

He said that the company would initially focus on implementing the system in Malaysia and its operations overseas before mekting it ot other companies or organizations in the region.

He told reporters after the launch og e-globalLINK in Subang Jaya yesterday that the system was not only able to track and trace consignments at any point in time in the distribution chain but also inform customers of the reason for delay, if any.

“The system also allows the management to assess the performance of the business in real time,” Tan said, adding that the company’s 2,000-plus employees could access information online to improve parcel delivery time.

According to Tan, the-e-glbalLINK system would be simultaneously implemented in the company’s network of about 100 stations throughout the country and offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Vietnam.

He said the company hoped to franchise the system to other organizations or companies in one to two years.

“Our objective in the long run is to use the system to network to all cities, business associates, members, users and customers, anywhere, at anytime,” he added.

City-Link is said to have a 10% to 12% share of the courier services industry and delivers more than 30,000 parcels daily.
